From the World of My Tween

Tuesday, my 11 year old got bottom braces to match her top ones. The orthodontist also added a ledge behind her front top teeth to correct her bite. The ledge, poor thing, causes her to have a very slight lisp.

This morning at the bus stop I was doing my darndest to brighten her mood.

Tween: My friends say I sound like Sylvester.

Me: Well, you don’t. I can barely tell the difference.

Tween: And these braces make look and sound ugly.

Me: First of all, you wanted the braces to correct the look of your teeth. And they will.

Tween: Yeah, in like a million years…

Me: No, it will only be a year. Maybe less. Besides, you ARE beautiful and you know that beauty is not just about what’s on the outside. It comes from within…

Tween: I know you love me, Mom, but please don’t give me that Chicken Soup for the Soul stuff.

I promise you I tried my hardest not to laugh.

Alas, I was unsuccessful.

Northern Virginia Maternity Photographer { Karen in Haymarket }

maternity

My new most favorite thing in the world is making pregnant women see how beautiful they truly are. Karen is a perfect example..simply stunning. I LOVED that she was totally cool with getting all earthy with me. Barefoot in the forest. Posing on the ground sans blanket. By the time the shoot was over, we were both covered in grass and had tree sap in our hair. Coming soon: newborn images of her baby due in just four weeks!

Sleepy in San Fran

I have made the trip at least twenty times but this go round my internal clock refused to reconcile with the one in California.

Did I have fun? Of course.

Did I fall asleep at the dinner table? Let’s not talk about it.

I’m back in Virginia again and the weather is giving us a lovely spring tease. Tomorrow I’ll be shooting my first outdoor maternity session of the year. I’m so excited!

Better get a good night’s sleep…

A Very Long First Day

Something about getting up at 4am in Virginia (at 21 degree temps) and arriving in San Francisco at 9am (at 60 degree temps) can make you feel as though a week has passed. Let me just tell you that I (barely made my flight) and have every intention of making the most of the next few days here.

Today we went to lunch at our favorite dive. (best veggie burger on sourdough ever)

And walked up and down the Embarcadera.

Tonight we are off to Hillsborough to have dinner with friends and then possibly hit the town…
Energy permitting – did I mention that I my coffee machine broke this morning?

Have you been to San Francisco? What’s your favorite place to visit?

California Dreaming

Today school was canceled due to snow and ice. Tomorrow I am getting the heck out of here…

I’m looking forward to taking a ton of pictures. When my computer crashed last year I lost half of my files…including all of my San Francisco images.

Did I mention that the temps will be in the 60′s? Oh yeah.
